Dear colleagues in the gospel.

Some of you might not have received my earlier post. I wanted to make sure that all ministers in the CRCA are aware of some of the changes in communication. I encourage you to visit the Ministry Formation website, the various blogs and links. Read the stories of the gospel advancing in and through the CRCA and tap into the various resources and ideas that are posted from time to time.

If there are any ways you would like me to assist you or your church in the gospel work God has called us to, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In Christ,

Jack De Vries

Prayer is striking the winning blow; service is gathering up the results.
You can do more than pray after you have prayed,
but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed.

Growing Healthy Churches

  <https://i1.createsend1.com/ei/y/07/DF6/FF5/csimport/Grow.093920.jpg>

The CRCA is committed to growing healthy churches that grow, churches that are gospel-focused, reaching the lost for Christ. Over the past five years through our monthly newsletters and the Ministry Formation website we have shared excellent resources and ideas and pointed readers to good books that will encourage churches to grow healthy. This will continue but not in the same format.

In place of the monthly newsletter I will be posting blogs on the new CRCA website. These blogs will appear more frequently.

The Catalyst will continue to tell the stories of the CRCA at work through workgroups and local churches.

If you visit one of the blogs you can also subscribe to the blogs or receive a RSS feed. This way you will automatically receive new posts as soon as they are published. You can also follow Ministry Formation on Facebook and/or Twitter @crcamtc.

Here are some of the recent blogs I have posted. The first one shares some resources as you think about church membership. In the next one I encourage you to think about church health. The final one is a review of one of the best books I can recommend on church leadership.

Membership: Raising the Bar

Membership in a church used to be a big deal. Unlike a membership at the local gym or even joining the area golf club, membership in the church meant giving of yourself wholeheartedly to the life and ministry of the church. Not only did you attend every worship service, but you gave generously of your time, talents, and treasures to the well-being and growth of the church you joined..

Wisdom From the Garden

  <https://i3.createsend1.com/ei/y/07/DF6/FF5/csimport/Garden.094040.jpg>

I grew up with a green thumb. See, my dad was a gardener, and ever since I could tag along with him, he would have me work with him in the gardens. Cutting grass, clipping hedges, trimming roses, planting annuals, laying new turf, weeding between the plants, watering the flowers. I still enjoy gardening -- seeing seeds become plants and watching things grow. There is much wisdom we can learn from the garden.

The Conviction to Lead

"True leadership starts with a purpose, not a plan." In many ways this statement sums up Albert Mohler's excellent book on leadership: The Conviction to Lead. Leadership has to do with conviction. As he writes: "Congregations and Christian institutions need effective leaders who are authentically Christian -- whose leadership flows out of their Christian commitment."
