Hi to all fellow ministers and Session clerks,

I came across a quote today which was in an email from Mark Glanville. I'm
resending some selected lines:

  _____

'"Blessed are those who mourn." What can it mean?

... But why does he hail the mourners of the world? Why cheer tears? It must
be that mourning is also a quality of character that belongs to the life of
his realm.

Who then are the mourners?

....They are the ones who realize that in God's realm there is no one
falsely accused and who ache whenever they see someone imprisoned unjustly.

...They are the ones who realize that in God's realm there is no one who
suffers oppression and who ache whenever they see someone beat down."

Nicholas Wolterstorff, 'Lament for a Son'

  _____

The reason for quoting these word is to accompany an announcement from WD&R.

There is massive human suffering because of the Syrian crisis. The
"household of faith" from there is suffering too.

Sunday 3 Nov. has been nominated as an international day of prayer for the
suffering church.

Over the next few weeks we will be sending out suggested bulletin notices
and requesting that our churches may wish to give their members an
opportunity to give towards helping believers affected by the Syrian crisis.
eg a local congregation may wish to hold a 2nd offering or a retiring
offering for this cause.

At this time we are still investigating the best way to get funds to help
the suffering believers from Syria. There are a number of options for us. We
will certainly let you know how the funds we receive will be allocated.

In the meantime this email is going out to leaders in CRCA.

(Also we are including the NDC of the RCNZ and the RCNZ churches in this
notice for their information only.)

We would value any feedback about this suggestion.

Yours in Christ,

Bert Kuipers
