Christian Reformed Churches of Australia
Greetings. In November I sent out the email as hereunder and to date not had even one reply. I am assuming this is due to the fact that it was just prior to the busy Christmas season thus the request has been put on the back burner for then. However as the time for me to return to the Netherlands draws nearer and also my visit to Mr Smallenbroek, I would ask that you consider my request as soon as possible. It would be most disappointing if not one church in the whole denomination responded to Mr Smallenbroek’s request. I understand that you may be busy as all the new activities for 2014 commence, but could you then ask an older member in your congregation who knows the history of your congregation who may like to correspond with me or even this nice elderly man in the Netherlands. A retired elder in one church I spoke with recently was able to give me information about his church dating back to 1957. Regards, Robert Spits

Greetings, I am writing to you with a request, however I would like to give some background to this request. Earlier I had several meetings with a man in the Netherlands who was for 30 or so years the archivist for the Hervormed kerk in the Netherlands and after his retirement he continued for 20 more years to collect and archive history/ info about protestant churches of Reformed/ Presbyterian persuasion. He has written many articles for various church and other publications in the Netherlands and also produced a beautiful bound book entitled.
RELIGIEUZE CANON IN 25 VENTSTERS OP DE GODSDIENSTIG GESCHIEDENIS VAN NEDERLAND
IN RELATIE TOT
DE HERALKIEK EN SYMBOLIEK IN WAPENS EN KERKZEGELS
‘ALS BEELDRAGERS DER GESCHIEDENIS’
This man collects copies of church seals and has copies of seals dating back to 1572 (Breda Nederland) in addition to collecting the seal of a church he also tries to get the history of the church to go with a seal.
Thus he has thousands of pages of historical information about protestant churches from all over the world (4500 seals) but very little about the CRCA. He asked me if I knew of someone maybe a denominational archivist who he could write to see if there are congregations who have a church seal or logo and could he have a copy and if possible some history about the seal.
I told him that I would make his request known to the churches via this medium and see what response we get. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with a copy of your churches’ seal or logo/letterhead that I could pass on to him when I go to Nederland again in early 2014.
If it is possible some history about the seal and also about your congregation would be appreciated. Perhaps your congregation has a local history booklet in a soft or hard copy that we could have, all hard copies would be returned.
