[Mins] Seeking input on training elders

Good day John,

 

Two resources that I have found helpful in developing leaders and elders
are:

 

1.       The Elder's Handbook  by Louis Tamminga (available from the
Resource Centre).   Lots of information and not all of it needs to be used
by apprentice elders.   Use the first 37 pages, and that will give
prospective or new elders a good idea of the tasks and roles of elders.
The rest of the handbook gives helpful info about specific issues and the
"business" end of session/council meetings, Classis and Synod.

2.       Leadership Essentials by Greg Ogden is a great discipling tool for
maturing leaders in your church -- deals with the areas of a leader's
character, convictions, and various competencies.   I have used this book
with a number of leaders, not just elders, and it is a good book rooted in
solid Bible study and accompanying readings.   A valuable resource.

Hi men

 

Greetings to one and all, and may you know God's blessing upon your
respective ministries in 2013.  May I ask for your help please?  We're
presently tweaking our apprentice elder programme (designed to give men an
idea of what's involved in eldership and, Lord willing, prepare them for it
should the Lord call them to that) and I'm looking for a resource to assist
in this as part of the mentoring process.  Would you have any suggestions?
