Were you chasing this year's volunteers in January? Far too late wasn't it? Make 2014 different; start recruiting now. Take intentional steps this term to recruit your 'A' team for 2014.

To begin with, start praying and asking the Lord to supply what you need for next year. 

Have a personal discussion with each of your current leaders about their experience in 2013. Give each of them a gift. Affirm their contribution and tell them how much they have meant to the ministry.  Then, for those who have done well (you may find some really need to leave) share your vision for 2014 and the need to have them continue. Ask them to pray about their ongoing role and to give you, ASAP, a solid commitment to 2014.

Identify others in the church you feel your ministry needs and even if you have asked them 100 times before, ask them (again) to join your work. Share your vision and the need and ask them to pray about their commitment. 

Plan Sundays throughout the term on which you will invite new people to come and participate in children's ministry. Give them a job and a taste of what it's like. Ask those you feel are suitable to consider 2014. 

Create a clear job description that sets out exactly what's involved in being in children's ministry. Hand it to people but don't leave them with it. Make an appointment to discuss it with them and to answer their questions. 

Create a video called, 'A day in the life of a children's ministry leader.' Let people see what it's like and whether or not they could see themselves in the role.
